KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) — The Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2) should get off
the ground as a solution to the impending water crisis in Selangor expected in 2016, according to the
developer of the project.

Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman said
the postponement would delay efforts to resolve the water woes and put consumers in difficulty for the
next 10 years.

“The main factor contributing to the impending water crisis is the three per cent annual population
increase.

“This means an increase in demand for treated water, including for industrial use, thus pushing
Selangor closer to water crisis,” he told reporters after holding a briefing for contractors interested in
bidding for the project at PAAB office here, today.

He said the site for the construction of Langat 2 was no longer at issue as 200 of 300 lots of land
required had already been granted the K Form (notice that the land had been acquired) by the Land
Office.

“On the whole, this project requires 300 lots of land, of which 200 lots had already been acquired while
the rest are still in the process of discussion. But for Package 2A, only 86 lots of land were needed and
most of them had approved,” he said.

Ahmad Faizal said Langat 2 would cost RM3.7 billion, including installation of pipes to siphon water
from Pahang.

“As Langat 2 is a government project for the people, we should not delay its construction which is
expected to take 45 months to complete,” he said.

Ahmad Faizal said PAAB today issued tender documents for Langat 2 to interested contractors who
would be taken to visit the project site tomorrow.
